It is very simple to start. Each player is dealt 2 cards. A further 5 cards will be laid in the centre of the table during a series of betting rounds, open for everyone to see. The aim of the game is to have the strongest hand, when you combine your two cards (that no one else can see) with the cards in the centre of the table.

To start a game off you must ensure that there is money in the pot for each game the first player on the left of the dealer puts in half the table’s minimum stake and the second player to his left puts in the minimum stake. This happens before anyone has seen their cards.

A game is split into 4 betting rounds the first round is when everyone has been dealt their first 2 cards and decides whether they feel these could be the start of a good hand and continue playing. Or, if they have weak starting cards, whether they want to bluff their way through or simply fold betting always moves clockwise from the first player to the left of the dealer. The first player can either: bet, fold or check. Checking gives the opportunity to go first to the next player. The first player to bet changes with each new hand, again, moving clockwise around the table.

The Flop

The remaining players then have to raise, fold or call, matching the previous player's stake. Once everyone has made their decision by folding or contributing to the pot in the middle of the table, this round of betting is over and three community cards are revealed. At this point everyone has a better idea of whether they will be able to create a strong hand and there is another round of betting.

The Turn and the River

Then a forth community card is revealed followed by another round of betting and finally the fifth community card is revealed followed by the last round of betting. After this each player still in the game, reveals their cards and the strongest hand wins the pot.
